This is the county council´s task
The Kalmar county council comprises the whole county and is responsible for the health and medical care, the dental care and certain education.
This is the government´s task
The county administration is a governmental authority and principally a prolongation of the parliament and the Government. The county administration co-ordinates different governmental issues in the society, for instance, housing, means of communication, natural resources, care of the nature and environmental issues. The manager of the county administration is the county governor.
The tax administration is responsible for the govrnental tax collection and the national registration in the county. The police force is also a governmental responsibility.
This is the municipality´s task:
In the Kalmar county there are 12 municipalities. Everyone of them is responsible for social welfare, schools, care of children and elderly people, care of the mentally retarded, certain health care, streets and roads, culture and protection from fires.
This is the regional federation´s task:
The regional federation in Kalmar county works with the development of the industrial issues in the county, means of communication and culture. The regional federation is an experimental unit. The federation has an office with a staff of around 30 people. The officers come from the county administration, the municipality federation and the county council.
Principally health and medical care
The county council has divided its activities into three parts:
- health and medical care
- dental care
- education (responsible authority for four of the county folk high schools)
The health and medical care is the county council´s most extensive activity field. The care is decentralized, which means that wherever you live within the county, you should have access to good care.
